History of the Senedd and its buildings

Senedd

The Senedd building, situated in Cardiff Bay, was opened in 2006 and sits alongside the historic Pierhead - part of the larger Senedd estate - which also includes a visitor information centre in Colwyn Bay.

History of the Senedd and its buildings

The Senedd building is situated on the waterfront in Cardiff Bay, adjacent to the Grade 1 listed Pierhead and Wales Millennium Centre. The building faces south west and looks out over a spectacular panorama of sky and water.

The building has three floors, houses the Siambr, as well as many other rooms supporting the legislative and democratic processes in Wales. Transparent at the public level, the debates take place below within the slate plinth. The Senedd buidling was designed to be as open and accessible as possible.

History of the Pierhead

The Pierhead is a unique visitor, events and conference venue for the people of Wales; a space to express opinions and give voice to issues that matter. A historic Grade One listed building, the Pierhead was once the focal point of commerce in Wales. This majestic building has stood proud over Cardiff Bay's unique and varied history since 1897.
