Assembly seeks public views on its Single Equalities Scheme and Action Plan

The National Assembly for Wales Commission has launched a public consultation on its Draft Single Equalities Scheme and Action Plan to seek the views of organisations and the public in Wales.

The scheme which covers age; disability; gender/gender identity; race/ethnicity; religion/belief and sexual orientation, is designed to promote the mainstreaming of equalities and diversity throughout the organisation, as both an employer and a service provider and to support staff and service users who have differing and sometimes overlapping needs. The action plan sets out how the Assembly plans to achieve equalities objectives, address inequalities and tackle disadvantages.

The consultation period is open until September 2008 and a final Scheme and Action Plan will be published in October 2008. It will cover a period of three years, after which it will be reviewed and updated. is available on the Assembly website at:

A summary of the consultation document is available in alternative formats and community languages upon request. Assembly officials are also available to visit organisations to discuss the scheme and to gather feedback.

The Assembly’s Chief Executive Claire Clancy said: “The single equality scheme is currently at the development stage, and we would like to involve as many people as possible to ensure all their differing needs are considered when we set our equalities objectives. We need to know what we are doing well and where can we improve, so I would urge anybody with a view on the subject to contribute to the consultation.”
