The National Assembly of Wales Public Accounts Committee has published its report into the Scrutiny of Accounts of public bodies, which seeks to improve governance, make reporting more transparent, and deliver better value for money for taxpayers in the future.

In addition to the Welsh Government and the National Assembly for Wales's Commission, the bodies whose accounts were considered by the Committee were the Public Services Ombudsman for Wales (PSOW), the Older People's Commissioner for Wales (OPCW), and the Children's Commissioner for Wales (CCW), the Welsh Language Commissioner (WLC) and the Arts Council for Wales (ACW).

Darren Millar AM Chair of the Public Accounts Committee said:

"There are hundreds of taxpayer-funded organisations in Wales which are required to publish annual accounts and reports, and whilst these are generally compliant with reporting requirements the information they contain may not be as well scrutinised or understood as it could be.

"This year the Public Accounts Committee decided to consider the accounts of a selection of such organisations as part of a package of new ways of working which we agreed earlier in the Assembly term. I hope the recommendations we made will assist public bodies use their funding more effectively, and better explain to the public how they spend their money."
