Register to vote and make sure you have your say as Wales goes to the polls in 2011!

Next year (2011), the people of Wales will get the chance to have their say in three important ballots.

In the Spring, there will be a referendum that will ask whether the National Assembly for Wales should get more law-making powers.

Then, on May 5, we will be asked to vote for who we think should represent us in the Senedd by casting our vote in the 4th National Assembly for Wales elections.

On the same day, voters are also expected to be asked to decide whether in future we should elect our Westminster MPs through a system of proportional representation.

These are three important votes that will affect our futures; so the National Assembly for Wales’ Outreach team is visiting Welsh university Freshers' Fairs to provide information to students about the forthcoming votes and details of how to register to vote in Wales.

“These are momentous elections and everyone who lives in Wales should have their opportunity to have their say at the ballot box,” said the Assembly's Presiding Officer, Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM.

“The National Assembly for Wales has a legal duty to be an objective source of information on the current devolution settlement and any future changes.

“Our Outreach Officers will therefore be present at universities across Wales in Freshers’ Weeks to ensure that students are aware of the important choices Wales faces next year and to ensure that they are able to take part in the process.”
