Children, Young People and Education Committee - Fourth Assembly

Legacy Report

Legacy Report

At the end of every Senedd, committees look back on the work they’ve done over the previous five years, and think about the advice they want to leave for the next committee.

They are a useful source of information for new committees, the Members who serve on them and for anyone who takes an interest in their work. They can help all of us to understand what has happened in the past, and the forces that will influence what happens next.

This was a committee of the Fourth Assembly (2011 - 2016). Current committees can be found at https://senedd.wales/committees

The Committee was established on 22 June 2011 with a remit to examine legislation and hold the Welsh Government to account by scrutinising expenditure, administration and policy matters encompassing:  the education, health and wellbeing of the children and young people of Wales, including their social care.

On 22 January 2014, the Assembly agreed to alter the remit of the Committee to include Higher Education.  This subject continued to be included in the remit of the Enterprise and Business Committee, with both committees looking at Higher Education from their particular perspectives.  The Committee was previously known as the Children and Young People Committee.
