The Reform Bill Committee want to know what the public thinks about Welsh Government’s plans to increase female representation in the Senedd.

We’re asking for your help so that everyone in Wales has the opportunity to have their voice heard.

The public consultation opens on 15 March 2024, and will close on 12 April 2024.

What does the Committee want to know about?

The Reform Bill Committee is looking at the Welsh Government’s Senedd Cymru (Electoral Candidate Lists) Bill.

The proposed changes in the Senedd Cymru (Electoral Candidate Lists) Bill would mean that political parties would be required to ensure that at least half of their candidates nominated for Senedd elections are women.

The Committee wants to know what the public thinks of the Bill, including:

  • whether legislation is needed to deliver the Bill’s objective of making the Senedd more effective by ensuring it is broadly representative of the gender make-up of the population
  • whether there are any barriers to implementing the Bill, or the Bill could result in any unintended consequences.
