Andrew’s political interests include the economy, education, health and rural affairs.
Personal history
A family man, farmer and local community champion. And a Member of the Senedd for the Vale of Glamorgan & Bridgend. Andrew was born in 1968. He is married to Julia and they have four children. He is a former president of the Llantrisant Young Farmers Club and was the founding chairman of Creative Communities in the Vale of Glamorgan. He is also a life governor of the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and in 2016 served as president of the Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Society.
Professional background
Andrew is a farmer by background and he remains an active partner in his family farm in Llantrithyd in the Vale of Glamorgan.
Political history
Andrew stood for the Conservatives as a Parliamentary candidate in Cardiff West at the 2001 general election and in Brecon & Radnorshire in the 2005 general election.
He was first elected to the then National Assembly for Wales on the South Wales Central regional list in 2007. During that Assembly term, he held shadow ministerial posts for transport, education and health. Andrew was elected Leader of the Welsh Conservative Group in the Senedd by party members in Wales in 2011. He served in that role until June 2018.
In 2019, Andrew won a by-election to the Vale of Glamorgan Council for Rhoose ward on a campaign opposing the closure of Llancarfan Primary School.
During his time as a councillor, Andrew donated his salary to community projects across his ward, including: funds towards community automated external defibrillators, restoring Fonmon pond, support for Rhoose Community Library, public Christmas lights in Rhoose, funding for outreach events for elderly residents and other local projects.
In January 2021 he returned to the role of Leader of the Welsh Conservative Group in the Senedd, which he held until December 2024.In May 2026, Andrew was re-elected to the Senedd, under the new electoral system, as a Member for the Vale of Glamorgan & Bridgend.
