Key Interests and achievements
Being a doctor I am obviously very interested in reforming
the NHS into an institution fit for the 21st Century, for the good of patients
and for the nation.
Personal history
I am married to fellow Member of the Senedd Dr. Safa
Elhassan and have three children.
Professional background
After leaving Ysgol Gyfun Ystalyfera I studied medicine at
King’s College in London before returning to Wales to specialise in Ophthalmic
Surgery, returning to Moorfields Eye Hospital to undertake a fellowship in
Medical Retina. A consultant ophthalmologist at Singleton Hospital in Swansea
since 2016, I served as Llywydd of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists in
Wales as well as Head of School for ophthalmology before entering the Senedd.
Political history
Prior to standing for the Senedd in my home constituency of
Gwyr Abertawe in 2026 I stood twice for Westminster in Swansea West.
Other
I enjoy hiking, having completed the Wales Coastal Path and
Offa’s Dyke, as well as reading and writing.
