Key Interests and achievements
I was elected as the Reform UK Member of the Senedd for
Brycheiniog Tawe Nedd in May 2026, having previously served for almost nine
years as a County Councillor on Powys County Council representing the Yscir
with Honddu Isaf and Llanddew ward. Throughout my time in public service, I
have taken a strong interest in education, rural infrastructure, planning,
housing, business support and protecting local communities. I have worked
closely with residents on a wide range of issues affecting Mid Wales and neighbouring
areas, including rural broadband provision, school governance and major energy
developments. I have also supported numerous local charities, community groups
and fundraising initiatives over many years.
Personal history
I have lived and worked in Brecon for most of my life. I am
married to my wife Dawn, and together we have spent decades serving customers
and communities across Mid and South Wales through both business and public
service. I have always had a strong interest in supporting communities,
protecting local services and encouraging thriving town centres and high
streets.
Professional background
Before becoming a Member of the Senedd, I spent around 40
years working in the flooring trade and retail sector. I worked for a carpet
& flooring retailer in Brecon for almost eight years before establishing
our family business, Young’s of Brecon, with my wife in 1994. Over more than
three decades, the business built up a strong reputation across South Wales,
serving both domestic and commercial customers including the NHS, Ministry of
Defence, police, fire authorities, builders and private businesses. My background
in business has given me first hand experience of the challenges faced by
employers, self employed people and working families.
Political history
I was elected to Powys County Council in 2017 and went on to
hold a number of Cabinet responsibilities, including Housing, Planning,
Economic Regeneration and Internet Connectivity. During my time on the council,
I represented residents on a wide range of local issues and became heavily
involved in scrutiny, governance and community campaigning across Powys. In May
2026, I was elected as the Reform UK Member of the Senedd for Brycheiniog Tawe
Nedd.
Community involvement
Over the years, I have been involved with a number of
community and business organisations, including the Brecon Chamber of Trade and
Tourism, where I previously served as Chair. I have also worked closely with
local schools, governors, voluntary groups and community councils across the
constituency.
