Mair has demonstrated a strong commitment to empowering
young people and communities, and to promoting equality, the Welsh language and
sustainability. Her leadership work spans higher education, the voluntary
sector and local government, along with valuable contributions on community and
charity boards.
Personal history
Mair Rowlands was born and raised in Cardiff before moving
to north Wales to study at Bangor University. She lives in Bangor with her
partner and young child, and has a passion for supporting families and
strengthening communities across Bangor, Conwy and Môn.
Professional background
Mair has more than a decade of leadership experience across
higher education, the voluntary sector and local government. Before being
elected as a Member of the Senedd, she worked as the Director of the Bangor
University Students' Union, and she previously worked in the area of
sustainability at the University.
Political history
Mair was first elected as a Plaid Cymru councillor in 2012,
at the age of 23. She later served as the Cabinet Member for Children, Young
People and Leisure before becoming Deputy Leader of Gwynedd Council at the age
of 28.
