Nick Carter was born in 1971 and grew up between
Crickhowell, Haverfordwest and Swansea. He has lived and worked in Cardiff for
over twenty years, and lives with his wife and their two daughters.
Nick studied a vocational surveying degree at Liverpool
Polytechnic, and later learned Welsh as an adult.
He qualified as a Chartered Surveyor in 1994 and worked as a
commercial property consultant in London and then Bristol, before moving to
Cardiff in 2002.
In 2006 he co-founded Calan Retail, a property consultancy
specialising in town centre retail, and most recently focussed on supporting
independent businesses navigate the property system with confidence.
In 2021 he completed a part-time Master's degree in Welsh
Government and Politics at Cardiff University. Nick was a Plaid Cymru candidate
in the 2017 and 2022 Cardiff Council elections, and on 7 May 2026 was elected
as Member of the Senedd for Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf. He sits on the Culture, Communications,
Cymraeg and Sport Committee.
Nick’s focus is on supporting constituents through listening
and engaging with communities across Caerdydd Ffynnon Taf, particularly those
affected by poverty. Supporting young people's education and opportunities,
tackling the climate emergency, and backing the local economy and independent
businesses are also priorities for him.
Key interests and achievements
Nick is a keen runner and follows the Wales football team home
and away. He has a strong interest in live music, comedy and grassroots local
venues.
