New members have been appointed to sit on the Independent Remuneration Board of the Senedd, the body which sets the salaries of Members of the Senedd as well as their business costs, including staffing, accommodation and travel.
Lord Nicholas Bourne of Aberystwyth and Jennifer Long have been appointed, commencing from 6 May 2025 to fill current vacancies, and Gareth Llewellyn will commence from 21 September 2025, when Dame Jane Roberts’ second term comes to an end.
Dr Elizabeth Haywood has been re-appointed as Chair and Hugh Widdis re-appointed as a Board member and they will begin their second five-year terms in September 2025.
Chief Executive and Clerk to the Senedd, Manon Antoniazzi, said:
“I am delighted we have been able to appoint a new Board with such a broad range of expertise and experience of remuneration from different sectors. I am pleased Elizabeth and Hugh have agreed to continue serving on the Board, their experience will provide strategic continuity during a critical period of transformation for the Senedd and they will be complemented by new ideas and perspectives of Jennifer, Nick and Gareth.
“The credibility and quality of the Board members will continue to help provide assurance that Welsh public funding is are spent with probity, accountability, value for money and transparency.”
Dr Elizabeth Haywood said:
“I am pleased to continue as Chair of Board during what is a period of significant change for the Senedd and I look forward to working with the new members of the Board.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank and pay tribute to the work of Dame Jane Roberts and the late Mike Redhouse, who served two terms and Lord Hanson of Flint, who have all made an immeasurable contribution to the work of the Board and to the Senedd.”
The Board is currently consulting on proposed changes to the Determination for the next Senedd. It forms part of a major exercise by the Board to review its Determination as the Senedd prepares to become a parliament of 96 Members
