Short Debate

NDM5255 Russell George (Montgomeryshire): Is the answer really blowing in the wind?  The renewable mix and the growing demand for hydro power.

A debate questioning whether the Welsh Government has the right renewable energy strategy in placing too much emphasis on onshore wind generation.

NDM5256 Elin Jones (Ceredigion)

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales:

Believes that Welsh communities need consultant led A & E and maternity services in local district general hospitals.

NDM5257 William Graham (South Wales East)

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales:

1. Welcomes the opportunity provided by Armed Forces Day to thank all those that have served in our armed forces and the support provided to them by the people of Wales.

2. Recognises the contribution of non-military personnel to successive war efforts.

3. Calls on the Welsh Government to support veteran-directed services and consider the introduction of an Armed Forces Card Scheme, for veterans and those serving in the armed forces, to coincide with events commemorating the centenary of the First World War.

4. Calls on the Welsh Government to work with the Assembly Commission to develop and publish a national programme of commemorative events.

5. Calls on the Welsh Government to consider working with the armed forces and other partners to establish a National Military Museum for Wales to commemorate the rich heritage of sacrifice, courage and service of Welsh military personnel, civilians, and all those who have served their country in times of armed conflict.

To propose that the Assembly resolves to adopt the following amendments to motions:

‘and to work with interested parties to develop a Welsh red poppy to specifically commemorate the death of so many Welsh soldiers from 1914-1918’

To propose that the Assembly resolves to adopt the following amendments to motions:

1. William Graham (South Wales East)

Insert new point at start of motion:

Regrets that the Welsh Government's planned budget cuts to NHS finances, which are the deepest of the UK nations, are having a detrimental impact on the ability of the Welsh NHS to continue to provide the current configuration of consultant-led A & E and maternity services in Welsh hospitals.

2. William Graham (South Wales East)

Add as new point at end of motion:

Rejects proposals currently being considered by the South Wales Programme to downgrade consultant-led A & E and maternity services at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant.

Add as new point at end of motion:

Calls upon the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board to fulfil its commitment to retain existing A & E services at Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan.

Add as new point at end of motion:

Calls upon the Welsh Health Minister to secure the future of existing A & E services at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.

Add as new point at end of motion:

Recognises that local district general hospitals will provide sustainable and clinically robust A & E and maternity services if doctor recruitment levels are improved and calls for the Welsh Government to publish the results of its Doctor Recruitment Campaign, launched in April 2012.

Recognises that local district general hospitals will provide sustainable and clinically robust A & E and maternity services if nurse staffing levels are improved and calls for the Welsh Government to introduce legislation to facilitate a minimum level.

Calls on the Welsh Government to make concerted action in improving treatment for PTSD amongst veterans of the Armed Forces by examining the potential for a PTSD Treatment Centre in Wales.

Notes the Murrison Report which has resulted in additional funding for prosthetic limbs for veteran of the Armed Forces in England, further notes the establishment of a working group on the subject in Wales and calls for the Welsh Government to pursue parity of provision in Wales.
