NDM4134 Angela Burns (Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire): The Currency of Politics

NDM4135 William Graham (South Wales East)

To propose that the National Assembly of Wales:

1. Calls on the Welsh Assembly Government to:

a) Ensure that the tourism budget promotes a long-term marketing strategy linked to key attractions such as Wales as a location for walking holidays and adventure sports;

b) Further ensure that tourist operators and businesses receive frontline support in the very difficult economic climate; and

c) Take action to reverse the fact that Wales’ share of the tourism industry has reduced both nationally and internationally in recent years.

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3, elects Janice Gregory (Labour), Leanne Wood (Plaid Cymru), Darren Millar (Conservative), Kirsty Williams (Liberal Democrat) and Trish Law (Independent) as members of the Committee for the Scrutiny of the First Minister.

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Janet Ryder (Plaid Cymru) as a member of the Audit Committee in place of Chris Franks (Plaid Cymru).

NDM4139 Dafydd Elis-Thomas (Dwyfor Meirionnydd)

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Bethan Jenkins (Plaid Cymru) as a member of the Communities and Culture Committee in place of Nerys Evans (Plaid Cymru).

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Nerys Evans (Plaid Cymru) as a member of the Enterprise and Learning Committee in place of Janet Ryder (Plaid Cymru).

NDM4141 Dafydd Elis-Thomas (Dwyfor Meirionnydd)

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Janet Ryder (Plaid Cymru) as a member of the Equality of Opportunity Committee in place of Bethan Jenkins (Plaid Cymru).

NDM4142 Dafydd Elis-Thomas (Dwyfor Meirionnydd)

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Rhodri Glyn Thomas (Plaid Cymru) as a member of the European and External Affairs Committee in place of Nerys Evans (Plaid Cymru).

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Mohammad Asghar (Plaid Cymru) as a member of Legislation Committee No 1 in place of Janet Ryder (Plaid Cymru).

To propose that the National Assembly for Wales, in accordance with Standing Order 10.3 elects Gareth Jones (Plaid Cymru) as a member of Legislation Committee No 2 in place of Rhodri Glyn Thomas (Plaid Cymru).

Notes the Report on the Sustainability Committee’s Inquiry into Petition P-03-63: Banning Plastic Bags  on which was laid in the Table Office on 12 November 2008.

To propose that the Assembly resolves to adopt the following amendments to motions:

NDM4135

1. Carwyn Jones ((Bridgend)

Delete point c and replace with:

Continue with its collaborative approach, as demonstrated in the Tourism Summits, in order to maximise the economic opportunities for the tourism industry in Wales.

2. Carwyn Jones ((Bridgend)

Add as new sub point at end of motion:

Continue to support the effective marketing and promotional work carried out by Visit Wales both nationally and internationally.

3. Peter Black (South Wales West):

Add as new sub-point at end of motion:

Address the perceived failures in tourism advertising strategies since the abolition of the Wales Tourist Board.
