Release Of Aung San Suu Kyi
The National Assembly for Wales:
• Welcomes, along with the Burmese community in Wales, the release of the human rights and pro-democracy campaigner Aung San Suu Kyi;
• Recognises that Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1991 for her "non-violent struggle for democracy and human rights";
• Regrets that Aung San Suu Kyi has been under detention and house arrest for almost 15 years; and
• Encourages the military government of Burma to release all other political prisoners and to recognise and promote human rights and democracy in Burma.
