National Voter Registration Day

This Assembly:

Believes that registering to vote is the first step towards participating in our democracy;

Notes that 1 in 4 young people have never registered to vote, according to a recent Electoral Reform Society survey;

Welcomes National Voter Registration Day (February 5th) and the work of Bite the Ballot, NUS and ASDA in getting as many people as possible registered on the electoral roll;

Calls on the UK Government to ensure the move to Individual Electoral Registration does not result in thousands of people dropping off the electoral register in Wales.
