Environmental Impact of M4 Relief Road

This Assembly:

a) Opposes the Welsh Government's plans to spend £1 billion on a new 14-mile stretch of M4 in south Wales;

b) Notes the environmental impact of the planned route, which will cause the irreplaceable loss of one hectare of ancient woodland and affect five nationally designated important nature conservation sites;

c) Notes the Environment and Sustainability Committee report, which stated that 'serious unanswered questions' remain whether the process for selecting a route met the requirements of environmental law;

d) Calls on the Government to review its decision and consider all alternatives to minimise environmental destruction caused by the plans.
