To ask the Minister for Health and Social Services

Darren Millar (Clwyd West): Will the Minister outline how and when the hepatitis C treatments, as approved by NICE and All Wales Medicines Strategy Group, will be funded in Wales? (WAQ69158)

Answer received on 25 September 2015

The Minister for Health and Social Services (Mark Drakeford):

Funding of £13.8m has been made available by the Welsh Government to ensure patients who meet the clinical criteria have access to the hepatitis C treatments approved by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence and the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group and to fund a new form of treatment for a rare condition called atypical haemolytic uraemic syndrome. This funding will be made available immediately.
