Kirsty Williams (Brecon and Radnorshire): How many schools allocated funding under Schools Challenge Cymru are currently classed by Estyn as schools in need of significant improvement? (WAQ68261)

The Minister for Education and Skills (Huw Lewis): There is one school in the programme that is classed by Estyn as in need of significant improvement and that is Abertillery Comprehensive School.

Huw Lewis: There are five schools in the programme that are classed by Estyn to be in special measures and they are Heolddu Comprehensive School, Llantarnum School, Rhosnesni High School, St Illtyd's Catholic High School, and Ysgol Clywedog.

Aled Roberts (North Wales): What guidance exists for practitioners to limit the prescribing of Risperidone/Risperdal to patients under the age of eighteen? (WAQ68257)

Answer received on 28 January 2015

Mark Drakeford: Practitioners follow prescribing advice published in the British National Formulary for Children and the NICE guidance on psychosis and schizophrenia in children and young people. This guidance advises on the use of oral antipsychotics such as risperidone.

 

Aled Roberts (North Wales): What guidance exists for practitioners regarding prescribing Risperidone/Risperdal to children under the age of five? (WAQ68258)

Mark Drakeford: The British National Formulary for Children provides advice on the prescribing of risperidone in those over five years of age. No national guidance has been issued on the use of risperidone in those under five.

 

Aled Roberts (North Wales): What monitoring reports are submitted to the Welsh Government which provide information on the incidence of prescribing Risperidone to patients under the age of eighteen? (WAQ68259)

Mark Drakeford: Routinely collected prescribing data does not link a prescription to the patient's age. This information is therefore not collected or monitored.

 

Aled Roberts (North Wales): What reporting mechanisms are in place to ensure that guidance on the NHS Choices website stating that "the prescriber may only prescribe [Risperidone/Risperdal] with special care or may not prescribe it at all for a child under five years of age" is being followed? (WAQ68260)

Mark Drakeford:  Prescribers are expected to adhere to the relevant advice in  the British National Formulary for Children and advice issued by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
