The Economy, Trade, and Rural Affairs Committee has been set up by the Senedd to look at policy and legislation, and to hold the Welsh Government to account in specific areas. These areas include business, economic development, skills, international trade, agriculture, fisheries and food.

The Committee is launching an ARI on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Welsh Economy.

It is interested in exploring:

  • The potential economic opportunities and risks that AI may present for Wales, including how these might vary by area and sector;
  • The extent to which businesses in Wales are making use of AI, and planning to do so in the future;
  • The potential impact of AI on jobs and workers in Wales, and government action that may be needed in response; and
  • The skills likely to be needed as a result of increased use of AI, and how well-equipped Wales is to deliver these.

Academics at all career stages, research institutions, and experts are encouraged to register their interest in this ARI, add their existing research and any planned research in this topic area to the ARI repository, and suggest questions that the Committee could be asking the Welsh Government in the short, medium, and long-term.

The Committee will use the information gathered through the ARI repository to scope and support its future work.
