Assembly Committee to discuss proposed new law on NHS compensation

The National Assembly’s Subordinate Legislation Committee will discuss the NHS Redress (Wales) Measure 2007 at its next meeting – the first time the Committee will be using its new scrutiny powers. The Committee will exercise its powers under Standing Order 15.6(ii), which says that “the Committee may consider and report on the appropriateness of provisions in proposed Assembly Measures and in Bills for Acts of the United Kingdom Parliament that grant powers to make subordinate legislation to the Welsh Ministers, the First Minister or the Counsel General”. This is the first draft Measure coming before the Assembly and the Members look forward to the discussion. Chair of the Committee, Dr Dai Lloyd AM, said: ”This will be an important meeting as it will the first opportunity for the Committee to exercising its new powers to consider Assembly Measures.  We will need to be rigorous in our scrutiny of the law-making powers proposed to be delegated to Welsh Ministers rather than being exercised by the full National Assembly.” The meeting takes place at Committee Room 3, Senedd, Cardiff  between 8.15am and 9.15am on Tuesday September 25th 2007.
