More powers for the National Assembly in order to increase access to the arts, sports and recreation in Wales? – have your say!

Do you think the National Assembly for Wales should have the powers to allow it to place a duty on local councils to increase access to the arts, culture and sport for people in Wales?

The Assembly’s Legislation Committee No. 4 is currently scrutinising the National Assembly for Wales Legislative Competence Culture and Other Fields Order.

The committee now wants to hear from all interested parties as well as members of the public to feed into the scrutiny process.

The order was tabled by the Welsh Government and would mean the National Assembly for Wales will have more power over the areas of historic monuments, culture, sport and recreation.

In its explanatory note on the measure, the government says: The Welsh Government’s aim is to widen participation to the full range of arts, culture, sport and recreational services and activities.

Low income, background or where people live should not be a barrier to access and participation to high quality cultural experiences.”
