National Assembly for Wales welcomes International Parliamentary Governance seminar

23 November 2010

An international delegation of commonwealth parliamentarians will attend a conference at the Pierhead today (23 November) as part of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) UK’s fifth International Governance seminar.

The seminar, which runs from 14-26 November in London, Brussels and Cardiff, provides a forum for international delegates to discuss issues surrounding the process of governing and the practical implementation of democratic principles, including scrutiny, accountability, equal and fair participation and national and international cooperation.

The delegation’s visit to Cardiff will include a presentation on devolution in Wales and the National Assembly, a presentation from a cross-party panel of Assembly Members (Mohammad Asghar AM, Kirsty Williams AM, John Griffiths AM and Jocelyn Davies AM) and an opportunity to view First Minister’s Questions.

CPA Wales Branch Chair, Janet Ryder AM, said: “I am delighted that the National Assembly for Wales will welcome this international delegation of Commonwealth parliamentarians to Cardiff.

“Delegates from as near as Scotland and as far away as Australia will have the opportunity not only to experience the iconic Assembly buildings of the Senedd and Pierhead but also to see first-hand the open, transparent, accessible and sustainable model of Welsh democracy here at the National Assembly for Wales.”
