Petition calling for more Welsh medium education in Caerphilly handed in at Senedd

29 November 2011

A petition calling for the Welsh Government to prioritise a bid submitted by Caerphilly County Borough Council for monies to finance additional Welsh medium secondary provision by 2013 was handed in at the Senedd on 29 November.

The petition states that the number of school children wanting Welsh medium education in Caerphilly is set to increase significantly by 2016, meaning an extra one primary school and one secondary school will need to be built.

The petition, which was started by Rhieni dros Addysg Gymraeg / Parents for Welsh Medium Education, gathered 1000 signatures in 24 hours.

It was formally handed in to members of the cross-party Petitions Committee, chaired by William Powell AM.
