Presiding Officer to host Future Governance of Wales Conference

Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales is to host a one day conference on The Future Governance of Wales at the Senedd on Thursday June 21st. The conference, which is being jointly staged by The National Assembly for Wales and the National School of Government, will focus on The Government of Wales Act 2006 and new laws and new ways of scrutiny that will arise as a result of the Act. Its aim will be to give as wide a range of organisations across Wales as possible the opportunity to engage with Assembly Members in constructive discussion of the National Assembly’s role in scrutinising policy and holding Government to account. Speakers will include the Presiding Officer, party leaders and Sir Jeremy Beecham, Chair of ‘Beyond Boundaries’ Review of Local Service Delivery:  Report to the Welsh Assembly Government. The conference will provide an opportunity for national discussion about how the new National Assembly should use its new powers. Lord Elis-Thomas said: “May’s election heralded a new dawn for the National Assembly for Wales, bringing with it enhanced powers and new responsibilities. I am looking forward to taking the constitution of the Assembly forward to a position of making legislation and conducting scrutiny and am pleased to be discussing the matter at this conference.” Further details of the conference, including details of how to register are available at www.futuregovernance.org
