Prince of Wales to visit National Assembly
HRH The Prince of Wales will visit the National Assembly for Wales on Thursday June 26th and will officially open Siambr Hywel, the Assembly’s new youth debating chamber and education centre.
The Prince will speak at the ‘Funding Futures’ colloquium organised by the Welsh Council for Voluntary Action Conference in the Pierhead Building before attending a reception to recognise the work of HRH The Prince of Wales’s Charities in Wales at the Senedd.
The Prince of Wales will then officially open Siambr Hywel, and afterwards meet students from Yale College Wrexham who will be holding a debate in Europe’s first dedicated youth debating chamber.
The new centre, based in the former Assembly debating chamber in Ty Hywel is known as “Siambr Hywel” after Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good) who was the first to establish a National Assembly in Wales and introduce a standard set of laws throughout the country in the tenth century.
The centre provides visitors with an opportunity to learn about the Assembly by taking part in a debate and voting on a motion in the same way that Assembly Members do and by taking part in workshops designed to teach about the Assembly and the way it works in the adjoining activity room.
