Resignation of the chair of the independent Remuneration Board - statement from Chief Executive and Clerk of the National Assembly for Wales

“Sir George Reid requires major surgery in early October.  He will need at least three months for recuperation and, in these circumstances, has tendered his resignation as Chair of the National Assembly for Wales’s independent Remuneration Board,” said Claire Clancy, Chief Executive and Clerk of the National Assembly for Wales.

“I accept his resignation with great sadness and would like to express, on behalf of the Assembly, my gratitude for his exceptional contribution.  As the first chair of the Board, his clarity of vision, attention to detail and creation of a strong and cohesive Board have proved hugely valuable.

“I am certain that the work carried out by the Board, under Sir George’s stewardship, will provide a solid foundation for the future.  It has been an enormous privilege and pleasure to have worked with him and the Assembly was extremely fortunate that Sir George Reid took on such an important role at such a pivotal time.

“Arrangements are now being put in place to fill the vacancy.  In the short-term, the Board has agreed the appointment of Sandy Blair as interim chair.”
