Members of the Senedd are entitled to resources to employ staff and run offices in their constituencies so that they can deal with issues and cases raised by the people they represent.
They are also entitled to be reimbursed for any expenses incurred when it has been necessary to stay away from their main home overnight when carrying out official Senedd duties.
Members' Pay and Expenses
The Independent Remuneration Board of the Senedd decides how much Members of the Senedd are paid, what costs Members can claim and the rules surrounding what they are entitled to claim. Those decisions are set out in a document called the Determination.
The Senedd Commission must ensure that information concerning the amounts paid to each Member of the Senedd as salary and allowances, and the total amount paid to Members of the Senedd as salaries and allowances, is published for each financial year.
Paid claims relating to travel, overnight accommodation and constituency work for costs relating to a Member delivering their duties are published online and can be searched using the Allowance Publication System. You can search by month, allowance type So, the issue we needed to work through was one of resources, given , expenditure or Member of the Senedd. Claims are listed by the month in which the claim was made, not the date that the expense was incurred and are published three months in arrears.
Where disclosure of details of a claim would involve disclosure of sensitive personal data or pose a potential security risk (e.g. information relating to home address, a medical condition) the particulars will be omitted from the publication. However the amount of these claims, along with costs for staffing, will be included in the published total paid to or incurred by individual MS on an annual basis.
