Access to Life Saving Treatments

The National Assembly is concerned that patients with life-threatening or life-ending illnesses have to fight for drugs that make significant improvements to their lives.

The Assembly notes the courageous campaign of Chris Lewis who having being diagnosed with terminal kidney cancer, has been denied the drug Sutent to prolong his life.

The Assembly calls on the Welsh Assembly Government to:

• Re-examine guidance made by the All Wales Medicines Strategy Group regarding the drug Sutent;

• Ensure doctors, who are best-placed to decide on the most appropriate care for their patients, are not fettered from delivering the best patient care
