DVLA Medical Advisors

That this Assembly:

Regrets the proposal by the DVLA to out-source the service provided by its medical advisors which could lead to significant job losses and privatisation of the service.

Calls on the DVLA, guided by the Department of Transport, to abandon this proposal and to guarantee the continued direct employment of its 20 medical advisors and 300 support staff.

Will monitor and resist steps towards 'creeping privatisation’ in public sector services in Wales - such as the proposal by the DVLA.

Believes that road safety medical expertise must be retained as an independent public service
