Swansea University's Modern Languages Department

The National Assembly for Wales:

Regrets the proposals to cut over 50% of posts in the Modern Languages Department at Swansea University.

Understands the difficult financial circumstances currently faced by universities, but believes that modern foreign languages, a WAG ‘national strategic priority’, should be supported for the future educational, economic and cultural health of Wales.

Believes the proposals will significantly reduce access to language provision in South West Wales.

Believes that the proposals will impact negatively on Swansea University’s status as Wales’ leading Welsh-medium foreign language provider.
