Improving School Acoustics

This Assembly:

• Recognises that there are more than 1,700 deaf pupils in Wales;

• Acknowledges that poor acoustics within school classrooms create a barrier to learning for all children, especially for children with a hearing loss;

• Welcomes the progress made by the Welsh Government in ensuring that all schools funded through its 21st Century Schools Programme meet good acoustical standards;

• Calls on the Welsh Government to ensure that all new build schools, nurseries and college buildings accessible to children with a hearing loss are built acoustically friendly and are tested to ensure that they meet at least the minimum acoustical standard.
