Supporting Local Media

This Assembly:

1. Notes the Welsh Government's consultation on the Proposed Procedural Changes for Advertising Road Traffic Regulation Orders which includes proposals for removing the current statutory requirement to place public notices in newspapers;

2. Appreciates the significant financial challenges local newspapers are facing;

3. Considers the proposed changes to current legislation have been made on a financial basis only, have little regard for ensuring notices reach the greatest number of people, and would be detrimental to local community reporting; and

4. Calls on the Welsh Government to support local media and abandon its proposed changes to the existing legislation.
