Control of Dogs (Wales) Bill

This Assembly:

Acknowledges that each year, thousands of people, including children, postal and telecom workers, and other adults in the UK are attacked by dangerous dogs;

•Notes that current legislation is insufficient in protecting attack victims;

•Recognises that Scotland and Northern Ireland have introduced new laws to deal with dog attacks;

•Welcomes the Welsh Government’s decision to introduce a dog-specific power – the Dog Control Notice – as part of a comprehensive approach to deal with dangerous and menacing dogs that will promote responsible dog ownership, extend the law to private property, and introduce both compulsory microchipping and new enforcement measures.
