Quit for Wales

This Assembly:

  • notes that smoking kills more than 5,000 people a year in Wales, and costs the Welsh economy almost £800 million a year;

  • supports the Welsh Government’s aim of reducing smoking rates from the current 23% to 16% by 2020;

  • welcomes the Quit for Wales campaign, which calls for workplaces to promote flexible quit smoking support to employees, midwives and health visitors to be fully equipped to support pregnant women to stop smoking, and mental health service providers to be trained in offering service users appropriate help to stop smoking;

  • commends the Welsh Rugby Union for backing the campaign.
