Mandatory state registration of hairdressers and barbers in Wales

This Assembly:

Notes the Hairdressing Council campaign for the mandatory state registration of hairdressers and barbers in Wales.

Recognises that under The Hairdressing (Regulation) Act 1964, although a person can apply to be state registered, this system is voluntary.

Supports the Hairdressing Council campaign to:

•raise professionalism and standards with a framework of minimum qualification standards and mandatory state registration for all Hairdressers and Barbers;

•eliminate those who practice with no qualifications or experience; and

•bring the industry in line with other regulated professionals and other countries who require mandatory state registration

Urges the UK Government to consider this issue.
