Designating Gwynedd's slate areas as a World Heritage Site
This Assembly:
Notes the application by Gwynedd Council to designate Gwynedd's slate areas as a UNESCO world heritage site;
Believes that the slate industry of north-west Wales was an integral part of the industrial revolution and that it had a far-reaching influence on the landscape and culture of Wales;
Believes that the slate industry makes a valuable contribution to the local economy due to the importance of the tourism industry and the slate sites that remain active; and
Recognises and supports Gwynedd Council's application to give heritage status to Gwynedd's slate areas, which would be a significant boost to communities and to maintaining our indigenous culture for the future.
