Work Opportunity: Parliamentary Assistant for Sarah Rees MS and Mark Hooper MS

Salary range (pro rata): £33,233 - £42,727

All new staff are expected to enter on the scale minimum of the appropriate pay band.  Individual staff will, subject to satisfactory performance, move up the incremental scale one point at a time on the anniversary of their commencement of employment until they reach the scale maximum for their band.

Working hours: 37 hours per week (shared between two Members)

Main duties:

  • Conduct detailed research on legislation, policy areas and government initiatives.
  • Draft and submit Senedd questions, motions, speeches and amendments.
  • Liaise with think tanks, charities, advocacy groups, and businesses to gather expert insights.
  • May supervise or coordinate junior research staff or interns to ensure quality research output.

Essential knowledge and experience:

  • A good understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks within which Members and Groups operate. This includes both Senedd frameworks (standards of conduct, expenditure etc) as well as broader and general frameworks and the ability to provide informed advice to the Member and colleagues on these matters.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to interpret complex legislation and data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with the proven ability to produce clear, persuasive reports and briefings.

Essential qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or suitable alternative experience.

Please note that this role is being advertised for a total of 37 hours per week.  The advertising Member is committed to working with the other Members of their party and the contract will be divided between multiple Members. In addition to Sarah Rees MS, the other Member of their party who may appoint to this role is Mark Hooper MS.
