Biography

Personal history

Ieuan Wyn Jones was born in 1949 and was educated at Liverpool Polytechnic College.

Professional background

Before being elected, Ieuan worked as a solicitor.

Political history

He was first elected to the Assembly in May 1999. In 2000 he was elected as President of Plaid Cymru with 77 per cent of the vote.

Ieuan served as Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly until the 2007 election when the One Wales Government was formed, and he became the Deputy First Minister. On 19 July 2007, it was announced that Ieuan would also be Minister for Economy and Transport.

His political interests are many and varied but he has a special interest in health and education.

Affiliations

Ieuan was made a fellow of the University of Wales, Bangor in 2009.
