Biography

Personal History

Alun was elected to the (then) National Assembly in May 2007. He was educated at UCW Aberystwyth. After graduating, Alun was elected President of the NUS Wales before working as a campaigner for the Worldwide Fund for Nature and Oxfam, which included international assignments in Rwanda and the Balkans. He then enjoyed a successful career with Hyder Plc, the UK Atomic Energy Authority and S4C TV and as director of his own business, Bute Communications before being elected. He has worked throughout Europe and the Middle East and was a regular speaker at international seminars and conferences.

Professional Background

Alun has extensive ministerial experience, he was appointed Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food, Fisheries and European Programmes in 2011; in 2013 Minister for Natural Resources and Food; in 2016 Minister for Lifelong Learning and Welsh Language and in 2017 as Cabinet Secretary for Local Government and Public Services.

Political History

Alun now sits on the Senedd’s Legislation, Justice and Constitution Committee and the Culture, Communications, Welsh Language, Sport, and International Relations Committee.
