Biography

Rhodri Glyn Thomas was a Member of the National Assembly for Wales between May 1999 and April 2016. This was his biography at the time he left.

Personal history

Rhodri was born in Wrexham in 1953. He attended the University of Wales Aberystwyth, Bangor and Lampeter. He is a minister of religion, and is also a company director. He is a fluent Welsh speaker.

Political history

Rhodri was first elected to the Assembly in May 1999. His political interests include agriculture and the rural economy, Europe, and social and transport issues.  When Plaid Cymru entered into a coalition government with Welsh Labour in July 2007, Rhodri was appointed as Minister for Heritage but later resigned the position in 2008. Following that resignation, he served as Chair of the Rural Development Sub-Committee, member of the European and External Affairs Committee, and the Sustainability Committee.

Affiliations

Rhodri is former Chair of CND Cymru, the Welsh spokesperson for Private Business and Chair of the Mid and South Wales Liaison Committee of NSPCC Wales. Rhodri has also served as a chair of school governors.
