Assembly elects Committee to look at proposed legislation on Healthy Eating in Schools

The Assembly has voted to establish a Committee to scrutinise a proposed Measure on Healthy Eating in Schools. The Measure has been proposed by Jenny Randerson AM, who won a ballot which enables Assembly Members who are not part of the Government to introduce legislation.

The Members of the Proposed Healthy Eating in Schools Measure Committee will be Jeff Cuthbert, Irene James, Dai Lloyd, Alun Cairns and Kirsty Williams. The role of the Committee will be to consider and report on the proposed Measure.

A Measure is a piece of legislation made by the Assembly. It has similar effect to an Act of Parliament. The Assembly is able to pass Measures on any ‘matter’ listed in Schedule 5 of the Government of Wales Act 2006 which currently includes areas such as education and training, health and local government.
