Assembly Members to clash with MPs in charity rugby match

13 March 2013

The National Assembly for Wales will play a Parliamentary team in a charity rugby match on Saturday (16 March).

It will be played at Cardiff Quins RFC, Forest Farm Road, Whitchurch, at 11am. Entry is free of charge with donations going to Bowel Cancer UK.

The game will see Welsh Conservative Group Leader in the Assembly, Andrew RT Davies AM, pitted against Conservative MPs Alun Cairns and Stephen Crabb.

This will be the seventh charity rugby match between teams from the Assembly and the Commons and Lords, the teams are evenly matched at present with two wins apiece and two draws.

“There’s more than one important game happening on Saturday,” said the National Assembly’s Presiding Officer and Honorary Patron of the National Assembly for Wales RFC, Rosemary Butler AM.

“I suspect there are going to be some full-on tackles being made in this game, after all there are important bragging rights at stake here.

“Since that first match, the Assembly team has raised well over £10,000 for Bowel Cancer UK, so I would urge anyone who can, to come along and support this fundraising effort.”
