Members of the National Assembly for Wales have recorded a good luck message for the Wales football team after they reached the knock-out stages of the European Championships.

AMs have joined the chorus of support for the team which is in the finals of a major football competition for the first time since 1958 by sending a video message to the team in France.

Wales reached the last 16 teams of the competition after topping their group following the three-nil win against Russia.

“The passionate support of fans at home and in France for the Wales team has been outstanding,” said Elin Jones AM, Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales.

“Chris Coleman and his players can feel proud for the way they have represented and inspired a nation, so it is only right that we should show our support for them.

“From the National Assembly we congratulate the Wales team on reaching the last 16 of the competition and wish them the best of luck for the rest of their campaign.

The home of the National Assembly, the Senedd, has also been lit up in red to celebrate as the whole country gets behind manager Chris Coleman and his team.
