Assembly Question Time a hit in Bryn Elian School
A special “Question Time” event was a big hit with the pupils at Ysgol Bryn Elian, Hen Golwyn recently. The event was held on Friday October 10th in the run up to Local Democracy Week and organised by The National Assembly for Wales’ Education Outreach Service in North Wales. The event gave young people a valuable opportunity to question local politicians on issues such as sport facilities in North Wales, hospice funding, buss passes, the battle against knife crime, and the powers of Assembly. The panel consisted of Daren Millar, Assembly Member (Clwyd West), Brian Cossey Local Councillor for Colwyn and Local Parliamentary Candidates Donna Hutton and Llyr Huws Gruffydd.Speaking about the event Assembly Presiding Officer, Lord Elis-Thomas, said:
“This was wonderful opportunity for young people to learn about the democratic process in Wales and challenge existing and aspiring politicians on what they can do to improve our communities and make changes to young people’s lives. Prior to the event Students at the school had already taken part in workshops hosted by the Assembly’s North Wales Education Officer which will give them a good understanding of the way the Assembly works and how it is making a difference to the people of Wales.”
