Audit Committee will discuss GPs’ contract
The National Assembly’s Audit Committee will this week be scrutinising GPs’ incomes in Wales in their first meeting of the new term.
The Committee will be asking questions of Ann Lloyd, head of health and social services in the Welsh Government, about the new General Medical Services Contract. A report by the Auditor General, Jeremy Colman, into the GPs’ contract found that it brought some benefits to patients but needs to be managed better. Concerns have arisen about the cost of the contract, its impact on services and whether it provides value for money for the people of Wales.
Members will also consider reports on the Auditor General’s draft programme of value for money examinations and his estimate of the income and expenses of the Wales Audit Office.
David Melding AM, Chair of Audit Committee, said: “We have a very challenging agenda for our first meeting of the term, but it is important that we get down to the work of effective scrutiny and examination of public expenditure in Wales.”
The meeting takes place at 1.30pm on Thursday October 18 in Committee Room 3, Senedd, Cardiff Bay. More details about the Committee
