Committee Chairs elected at National AssemblyThe first meetings of two new Assembly Committees were held today. The Finance Committee will scrutinise the Assembly budget proposals and financial information relating to proposed Assembly measures. Alun Cairns AM was elected as Chair of the Committee.The Petitions Committee will discuss petitions presented to the Assembly under its new Standing Orders. For the first time, members of the public will not only be able to petition the National Assembly and ask for action to be taken in those areas of policy for which the Assembly is responsible, but the Assembly will be required to act on the petition, if it is within the powers of the Assembly.Val Lloyd AM was elected as Chair of the Committee. She said: "I am delighted to have been elected to chair the Petitions Committee. This is a very exciting development for democracy in Wales and I look forward to further public engagement in the Assembly process.”
