Diary note: Inaugural meeting of the Assembly’s Committee for the Scrutiny of the First Minister

The inaugural meeting of the National Assembly’s Committee for the Scrutiny of the First Minister will take place on Wednesday 14 November at 09.30 in Committee Room Four in Ty Hywel.

Established on 2 May 2012, the Committee has a remit to scrutinise the First Minister on any matter relevant to the exercise of the functions of the Welsh Government. Earlier this year, the Committee announced that it would meet once during each Assembly term, and aims to hold at least one meeting a year in north, west or mid Wales.

Chaired by the National Assembly’s Deputy Presiding Officer, David Melding AM, the first scrutiny session with the First Minister, Carwyn Jones AM will focus on two areas. These are:

the Welsh Government’s legislative programme, including:

• the First Minister’s role in formulating, planning, and co-ordinating the Welsh Government’s legislative programme;

• the capacity and expertise within the civil service and civic society for delivering the programme;

• flexibility in responding to change; and

the Welsh Government’s approach to promoting enterprise, including:

• the First Minister’s vision for promoting enterprise in the Welsh economy; and

• how enterprise is mainstreamed and co-ordinated across the Welsh Government, with a focus on the development of cross-cutting policy areas such as Enterprise Zones and social enterprises.
