Yesterday, the Welsh Government laid their Draft Budget 2023-24 to the Senedd.

The Finance Committee began its detailed scrutiny of the Draft Budget on Wednesday 14 December by taking evidence from the Minister for Finance and Local Government, Rebecca Evans MS, and will publish its subsequent report on Monday 6 February. All Committee sessions are available to watch on www.senedd.tv

Other Senedd Committees will also publish reports on the impact of the Draft Budget on their respective policy areas on the same day.

Reacting to today’s announcement, the Chair of the Finance Committee, Peredur Owen Griffiths MS, said:

“Uncertainties around the fiscal and economic picture in the UK has resulted in significant challenges for the Welsh Government in undertaking its budget preparations, with living standards set for the largest fall on record.

“The Minister has brought forward a number of measures to support households, public services and businesses to deal with the cost of living crisis, rising energy costs and the impact of high inflation.

“Tomorrow, the Committee will be asking the Minister to defend the funding decisions she has made and explain how this budget will ease cost pressures and soften the damage of historic inflation.”

The Finance Committee will hold two further evidence sessions on the Draft Budget on the 12th and 19th of January.

The full timetable of the budget scrutiny process and further information outlining an overview of the process and the priorities for the Welsh Government have also been published.
