The GWLAD: Future Wales Festival is hitting the road in November, to spark conversation about the future of Wales and its communities in three different towns.
- Galeri Caernarfon: Saturday 16 November
- Catrin Finch Centre, Wrexham: Saturday 23 November
- Canolfan S4C Yr Egin, Carmarthen: Saturday 30 November
The three one-day festivals are part of a series of activities to mark the 20th anniversary of the National Assembly for Wales, and the emphasis is on discussing future of ideas, aspirations and visions for Wales over the next twenty years.
To spark the discussion a panel session will be an opportunity to share ideas, focusing on local issues in an all-Wales context. The panel will be formed of local people, who are influential in their fields, as well as local Assembly Members and Welsh Youth Parliament member.
The topics will be set by the audience, with an opportunity to present questions in advance or to ask from the floor during the event. GWLAD is free of charge, but a ticket is required to attend the discussion event, available via devolution20.wales/gwlad
Fun family activities will be a bit part of the events. There will be performances, shows, workshops and games to enjoy throughout the day, including a new show telling the Assembly's story by education theatre company Mewn Cymeriad/In Character.
Elin Jones AM, Llywydd of the National Assembly for Wales said,
"Whilst marking 20 years of devolution, we are focusing on discussing the future and sparking conversations with the people of Wales about the country we want to live in in the years to come. The three events in Caernarfon, Wrexham and Carmarthen will focus on issues that are important to these areas, whilst highlight their significance to the whole of Wales.
“During the festival in Cardiff Bay in September, we heard brave and ambitious ideas across a wide range of subjects. We saw agreement and disagreement on a stage which allowed discussion and we look forward to seeing this happen again as GWLAD goes on tour. ”
GWLAD a soundboard for bold and ambitious ideas
The three one-day festivals in November builds on the talks held during the GWLAD festival in Cardiff Bay in September. Among those taking part were high profile speakers such as Charlotte Church, Rhys Ifans, Tanni Gray-Thompson and Colin Charvis. There were several talks about journalism with Carole Cadwalladr, Seren Jones, Guto Harri and others, and diversity, equality, democracy, sport, arts and the language came under the spotlight during dozens of discussions over five days, 25-29 September.
Assembly History, as told by Senedd Security Officer
The GWLAD tour in Caernarfon, Wrexham and Carmarthen, will introduce a newly commissioned theatre show as part of the activities for children and their families. Mewn Cymeriad/In Character theatre company present the story of the National Assembly for Wales through the eyes of Meg, a Security Officer at the Senedd.
Actress Elin Llwyd plays the role of Meg and the show is written by author and poet Anni Llŷn. Catch the bilingual show twice a day at each location.
